Personal Care and Intimate Care are defined on the last page of the Practicum Evaluation (see below). 

Langara students can participate in Personal Care, but not Intimate care, as this requires a relationship with the student, and sometimes additional training. â€‹

Personal Care Activities may include:

  • Assisting with buttons, zippers or fasteners on outerwear and footwear
  • Washing hands and face
  • Face shaving and fixing glasses/hearing aids
  • Hair care
  • Applying deodorant
  • Brushing and flossing teeth
  • Eating and drinking programs
  • Walking and/or pushing wheelchairs
  • Broad education about puberty and sexuality
  • Verbal directions/prompts in a public washroom â€‹

Intimate Care Activities may include:

  • Assisting with toileting, diapering, catheterization and menstrual care
  • Dressing and undressing of undergarments and
  • Swimwear, showering and bathing
  • Full body lifts and transfers
  • Providing individualized education related to personal puberty and sexuality concerns
