The Langara EA student is required to be in the same room with a school district employee and cannot be left alone. Students can be within in hearing/visual distance.
When the Langara EA student shadows an EA mentor, here are some tips:
First Week:
Allow the Langara EA student to observe classroom students and staff and build rapport in the first 2-3 days of the first week.
By the end of the first week, Langara EA students should be working more directly with students and starting to take more initiative.
Second and third week(s): (or as the EA student becomes more comfortable)
The EA mentor and Langara EA student can take turns in the role of directly supporting the student(s), with the EA mentor gradually fading support.
Fourth week:
The Langara EA student should be working directly with the student(s) for most of the time with the EA mentor present.
